If the Broncos can beat the Chiefs, it’ll change the fate of the franchise

We all know that the Broncos are on pace to be the first team in NFL history to win a Super Bowl and then miss the playoffs for five consecutive seasons. A win on Sunday, however, could turn everything around.

The Broncos haven’t beaten the Chiefs at home since 2014. They also haven’t beaten them in any game since 2015. Since 2016, the Chiefs have won the AFC West every year, including two AFC Championship Game appearances and a Super Bowl victory.

John Elway and this franchise have tried to dethrone Kansas City since the retirement of Peyton Manning. That has yet to happen, however.

Entering this past offseason, Elway and the front office put a plan together to be able to compete and overtake the Chiefs. The Broncos spent money on defense in free agency to try and slow down Kansas City and also drafted for offense. Denver drafted weapons for Drew Lock to add speed to mimic Andy Reid’s offense.

Elway drafted the best wide receiver prospect in the draft in Jerry Jeudy. He also selected K.J. Hamler in the second round, arguably the fastest player in the draft.

The bottom line now is that with the Broncos being nearly healthy on both sides of the ball, Denver has a chance to prove to the world that they can compete with the defending champions.

If the Broncos can beat the Chiefs at home in Mile High on Sunday, it will tell everyone that Denver is back on the map and headed in the right direction. This would be the greatest win in Vic Fangio’s head coaching career. It would also signify that Elway has put together a team that can stop the bleeding of the wounds and broken hearts from the last four years.

A win would also prove that Lock might just be the future of this franchise. And it would place the Broncos right back into the playoff hunt.

Many people might think that Sunday’s win over the Patriots was a signature win, but it wasn’t. A win over the defending champs would be a monumental victory.
