Broncos Brandon McManus named AFC special teams player of the week

Oct 21, 2020, 10:10 AM

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos kicker Brandon McManus was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Denver’s 18-12 win at New England on Sunday, the NFL announced.

This marks the second consecutive game McManus has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. He also earned honor following Denver’s 37-28 win at the N.Y. Jets in Week 4 (3-3 FG, 54 LG, 4-4 PATs).

McManus joins running back Mike Anderson (Weeks 13-14, 2000) as the only players in Broncos history to receive AFC Player of the Week recognition in consecutive games within a season.

McManus set a single-game franchise record with six field goals made (45, 44, 27, 52, 20, 54) against the Patriots, accounting for all 18 points in Denver’s 18-12 win. It represented just the 32nd time in NFL history (since 1948) a player attempted at least six field goals in a game without a miss.

For the second consecutive game, McManus converted two field goals of at least 50 yards (52, 54). He is now tied with Justin Tucker (Bal.) for the most career games (6) in NFL history with multiple 50-yard field goals.

This season, McManus has made 12-of-13 (92.3%) field goals and 8-of-8 PATs for 44 total points. His five 50-yard field goals made lead the league through seven weeks and have already tied a career high (2015).

The longest-tenured player on Denver’s active roster, McManus has made 163-of-196 kicks during his career (reg. season + postseason) with his 83.2-percent conversation rate representing the best mark in team history.

Overall, McManus’ honor represents the 28th time a Broncos player has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week since the award was initiated by the NFL in 1993. It also marks McManus’ third career conference recognition as he was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in October 2015.
