Cheers/Jeers: Happy 25th birthday to Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan

Mar 6, 2020, 6:59 AM

This week’s “Cheers and Jeers” has a very special vibe to it, as it lands exactly on the 25th anniversary of Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan signing on the air (at the time 950-AM).

So, without further ado, let’s get this party started.

CHEERS | To you, the 104.3 The Fan audience

For a quarter-century, The Fan (as both 950-AM and 104.3-FM) has delivered sports news and commentary to the Denver airwaves — from triumph to tragedy through hope and despair.

Let’s face it. Personally, I’m just a small thread in the fabric that is the Fan tapestry. But it’s an honor to work under the same brand as so many great sports broadcasters and journalists.

And because of you, our loyal audience, all of us here at 104.3 The Fan get to live out our dream of talking sports.

So, from the entire Fan family, thank you.

JEERS | A bittersweet goodbye to Chris Harris Jr.

The NFL is a cold business, and this week a Denver Broncos great felt the brunt of it.

With the club trading a fourth-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for cornerback A.J. Bouye, the writing appears to be on the wall for Chris Harris Jr. in terms of his departure from Denver.

From undrafted to elite NFL defensive back and Super Bowl champion, Strap has been a fixture for the Broncos on the field and a truly classy gentleman off of it.

Where Harris lands, no doubt he’ll make an impact. Thanks, Chris, for leaving your mark here too.

CHEERS | Peyton Manning in the booth?

Color me skeptical on if this scenario actually plays itself out, but if reports come to fruition, “Monday Night Football” will be appointment viewing once again.

Per the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, ESPN is poised for an attempt to acquire Al Michaels’ services from NBC Sports for the purposes of overhauling “Monday Night Football,” and their dream scenario is to pair him with none other than future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

For anyone who’s watched Manning’s ESPN+ project “Peyton’s Places,” this would be a slam dunk upgrade for the weekly program.

Now, it’s just about luring Manning out of retirement.
