Cheers and Jeers: Championship Saturday and Bobo’s out at CSU

CHEERS | Mikko Rantanen and Gabe Landeskog are back
Thank goodness, the Colorado Avalanche have its top line back.
First, Mikko Rantanen made his valiant return on Saturday in style, racking up four points against the Chicago Blackhawks in a blowout. The Avs all-star also had assists against Toronto on Wednesday and Montreal on Thursday.
Then, the captain made his return in style, notching a goal against the Canadiens.
Now if Colorado could just keep health …
JEERS | Nazem Kadri sidelined
Despite the litany of injuries already this season, the Avs keep trudging on as expected, trailing just the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference.
But, it’s not for a lack of opportunity to overcome adversity.
In a win against his former Maple Leafs squad, Nazem Kadri suffered a lower-body injury and was out of action Thursday in Montreal.
Fortunately, whatever is ailing Kadri doesn’t seem terribly serious. But, come on injury gods. Throw Colorado a bone.
CHEERS | Championship Saturday at Mile High
Once again it’s that time of the year, the culmination of the Colorado high school football season with the 4A and 5A state championships on Saturday at Empower Field at Mile High.
Kicking things off at 11:00 am. — which, pardon the shameless plug, you can hear on 104.3 The Fan — is Broomfield and Pine Creek followed up by Cherry Creek and Columbine.
For many of these players, it’ll be the experience of the lifetime: playing in an NFL stadium for all the marbles — perhaps for the final time.
It’s truly magical. Check it out if you’ve got a free afternoon.
JEERS | Mike Bobo out at CSU
Let’s preface this first by saying, this is not a jeer at now-former CSU head coach Mike Bobo but the situation in general.
Bobo’s five-year tenure leading the Rams definitely fell short of expectations. But despite the underwhelming on-field performance, the coach should be lauded as a leader of young men who did things the right way.
Here’s to Bobo landing on his feet someplace soon and to CSU finding a replacement who can right the ship.
