Von Miller gives a Broncos rookie quarterback a ringing endorsement

Nov 14, 2019, 5:06 PM

Von Miller doesn’t have a bad word to say about anyone. As a result, the praise he dishes out has to be taken with a grain of salt; it has to be filtered to see how much stock should be put into his glowing reviews.

On Thursday, the Broncos linebacker was asked about Drew Lock. Not surprisingly, he had positive things to say about the team’s rookie quarterback. What was semi-shocking, however, was how effusive Miller was in his praise for Lock.

“I just want to be here when he gets famous,” Miller said. “He’s going to kill it. He’s going to kill it.”

Okay, that’s certainly an endorsement. But it’s also classic Von; he’s the king of hype.

“He’s got everything you need,” Miller added. “He’s just a star in the making.”

Well, that’s a little different. Now, the pass rusher is talking about Lock’s skill set. He believes the rookie has all the tools to become a star in the NFL. That’s a big statement.

“You saw it with Tony Romo and Aaron Rodgers; they just blow up,” Miller continued. “I see the same stuff for Drew.”

That’s next level. Suggesting that Lock’s career could take the same trajectory as Romo and/or Rodgers is an enormous vote of confidence. That’s a bold statement about a quarterback who has yet to take a snap in a regular-season NFL game.

“All he has to do is just keep doing what he’s doing,” Miller concluded. “Good karma and the type of guy he is, it’s all going to come back to him.”

One of the biggest hurdles for any young quarterback is to win over the locker room, particularly the veterans. Based on what Von Miller had to say today, that doesn’t seem like it will be an issue for Drew Lock. Having the MVP of Super Bowl 50 in his corner will go a long, long way.
