Broncos Injury Report: A lot of aches and pains heading into Week 4

Sep 26, 2019, 4:36 PM

As if the Broncos needed more bad news this week, the injury bug is starting to bite them. Multiple starters have missed practice this week, leaving a lot of question marks when it comes to who will and won’t be on the field when Denver tries to get its first win of the season on Sunday.

At 0-3, beating the Jaguars at home is imperative if Vic Fangio’s team is going to right the ship and save their season. But they’ll have to do it while being a little shorthanded.

Here’s who was listed on the Broncos official injury report as of Thursday, Sept. 19:

***

FULL PARTICIPATION

Bradley Chubb (OLB)
Injury – Knee
Note – After being limited on Wednesday, the second-year pass rusher was back at full strength on Thursday, which was great news for Denver’s defense

Ron Leary (RG)
Injury – NIR
Note – The day after missing practice for a “vet day,” Leary was back on the field

***

LIMITED PARTICIPATION

Garett Bolles (LT)
Injury – Illness
Note – The Broncos starting left tackle missed practice due to an illness, but it’s not expected to keep him out on Sunday

Royce Freeman (RB)
Injury – Shoulder
Note – The running back was injured against the Packers, but he came back into the game after being evaluated in the locker room; that bodes well for him being in the backfield against the Jaguars

Andy Janovich (FB)
Injury – Pectoral
Note – The Broncos starting fullback is inching closer to returning from an injury suffered during a preseason loss to the Seahawks

Joseph Jones (ILB)
Injury – Tricep
Note – Jones is also trending in the right direction, back on the practice field this week for the first time since getting hurt in the Hall of Fame Game

Emmanuel Sanders (WR)
Injury – Quadricep
Note – Denver’s most-dangerous offensive weapon was limited for the second-straight day, a concern for an already anemic offense

Derek Wolfe (DE)
Injury – Ankle
Note – When he was carted off the field in Green Bay, many thought Wolfe’s season might be over; thus far, he’s only missed one full practice and has an outside chance to play on Sunday

***

DID NOT PRACTICE

Bryce Callahan (CB)
Injury – Foot
Note – The cornerback will be sideline a few more weeks due to a foot injury that dates back to last season and was re-aggravated during training camp

Kareem Jackson (DB)
Injury – Hamstring
Note – The versatile defensive back missed a second-straight practice due to a hammy and Fangio listed him as “questionable” for Sunday

Ja’Wuan James (RT)
Injury – Knee
Note – The high-priced right tackle remains sidelined with a knee injury suffered after just 10 snaps in the regular-season opener

Josey Jewell (ILB)
Injury – Hamstring
Note – Injured while sprinting downfield in coverage against the Packers, Jewell remains hobbled and might miss Sunday’s game against the Jaguars
