Pritchard: Strong Lynch, Broncos practice ‘something of perfection’

On Wednesday, Von Miller said San Francisco has been good to himself and the Denver Broncos during his time in the NFL, and this week seems to be trending the same way for Paxton Lynch and the offense.

Following two strong days of practice for the second-year pro and the Broncos offense on the whole, “Pritchard & Cecil” co-host Mike Pritchard called it “something of perfection” to watch Lynch and the unit perform at a high level.

“You saw guys just making plays. You saw an offense that looked confident. You saw a quarterback that looked confident as well,” Pritchard said. “It was a thing of beauty.”

General manager John Elway said Saturday’s preseason tilt against the 49ers is the “next step” for Lynch, and the 2016 first-round pick “made some strides” during the two joint practices.

“Like we said, he’s making progress. They’re all making progress. But I think what you saw in Paxton today is he played with a little more confidence than he has in the past,” Elway said. “I think anytime he does that he’s a lot more successful.

“That comes with youth too. You have your ups and downs as youths and the consistency is not there where you want it to be. That’s why you continue to practice, continue to work and continue to get better.”

Pritchard said that’s the ideal outcome of a practice or competitive environment, to build on that momentum and improve yourself and your team.

“I mean, that’s what you strive for when you take the field any time you’re in a competitive environment or, certainly, in a practice where you’re trying to get better,” Pritchard said. “We saw the offense get better today.”

As for if Lynch’s efforts in Santa Clara will pay off in terms of getting him back into the quarterback competition with incumbent starter Trevor Siemian, a timetable for an answer is unsure.

Elway said that the decision on the starting quarterback role has not yet been made, which is why Siemian and Lynch continued to split reps this week.

“I know (head coach Vance Joseph) is going to continue to look at it and we’ll stay in contact and communicate on it,” Elway said. “As we said, we wanted to see these guys through preseason and eventually we’re going to name a starter. We just don’t know when.”
