Anderson feels ‘no pressure’ as Broncos rookie Booker improves

Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson said Thursday that he feels “no pressure at all” with backup Devontae Booker potentially getting more touches, saying he’s glad the rookie is coming along.
The remarks come after head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday that Booker “deserves some more opportunities to touch the football,” though not necessarily at the expense of Anderson’s looks.
“I just think when he’s had some opportunities he’s done some really good things,” Kubiak said.
Anderson said he’s been helping Booker along through his rookie season, and he welcomes the opportunities for the young running back.
“We know that he can make plays. He’s going to have that opportunity. He’s going to have a lot more opportunities to make plays, which is great,” Andrson said. “There’s nothing wrong in the National Football League when two running backs can make plays.”
Anderson said there’s not a certainly optimum split of carries between him and Booker, but as long as they both can get enough touches they’ll have “opportunities to make plays.”
Rushing for 330 yards in six games, Anderson’s received the bulk of attempts in 2016 with 94 compared to Booker’s 34. However, Booker rushed for more yards (46) in last Thursday’s loss at San Diego than Anderson (37) on five fewer carries.
In any scenario, however, Anderson said Denver needs to do better on the execution side of things to spark a rushing attack that been beleaguered of late.
“It’s really about execution from my point, from the o-line standpoint, from the tight ends and receivers,” Anderson said. “If we can execute it then we can run the ball, we can toss it, we can run it right up the middle, run it outside zone, inside zone, etc.”
Denver ranks 16th in the NFL through six weeks in rushing offense, while coming in a 22nd in rushing touchdowns (4) and 23rd in yards per carry (3.8).
