Report: Rockies Story sidelined for season with thumb injury

Aug 2, 2016, 3:45 PM

Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story will likely miss the rest of the MLB season as reports indicate the rookie star will undergo surgery on his left thumb.

Denver 7 Broncos Insider Troy Renck reported via Twitter Tuesday afternoon that Story, who tore a ligament in his left thumb sliding into second base during a game Saturday against the Mets in New York, will go under the knife and likely won’t return to action this season.

Story, who was amid a historic first season in the majors, had been in the running for National League Rookie of the Year, batting .272 with 72 RBIs and a NL-leading 27 home runs.

The Rockies announced they placed Story on the 15-day disabled list earlier Tuesday afternoon, recalling infielder Rafael Ynoa from Triple-A Albuquerque.
