Camp Countdown: Expect big leap from Bradley Chubb in year two

Jun 21, 2019, 8:11 AM

With the bar set pretty high having been selected as the No. 5-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Bradley Chubb seemed to match, if not exceed, expectations as a  for the Denver Broncos.

Starting all 16 games for Denver, Chubb amassed 60 tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass deflection on the road to earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month honors in October and being nominated for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

So, how will Chubb fare in his sophomore season? At least one 104.3 The Fan host believes he could be Defensive Player of the Year.

Zach Bye, co-host of “Stokley and Zach,” said he’s as high on Chubb as anyone in the country and the pass rusher is “going to be defensive player of the year this year.”

“I think he’s got the goods,” Bye said. “I think what we saw last year was what we had hoped was the best-case scenario with the word that was used with Bradley Chubb. There were two, and just two, generational players in last year’s draft, and that was Quinton Nelson and Bradley Chubb. And both of them looked the part.”

For the year, Bye predicted 19 sacks for Chubb, a number he believes is not totally astronomical given the offense can be “more respectable” in 2019 and Von Miller’s still lining up opposite of him.

“… If all those things are happening simultaneously, I don’t think my 19 sacks is that crazy,” Bye said.

Bye’s co-host, Brandon Stokley, said he can see teams not putting as much attention on Chubb early in the season, with Miller being the main point of focus, and thus he’ll get more one-on-one matchups.

“I expect him to go out there and look like an All-Pro. I mean, I expect him to go out there and have a great year this year,” Stokley said. “… I’m not saying he’s going to be an All-Pro, but I expect him to look like that type of player. I’m expecting a big jump from year one to year two, and I think he’s going to deliver.”
