The weekend at Coors Field that may have saved the Rockies season

May 28, 2019, 9:52 AM

The holiday weekend was a good one for the Rockies. From Friday night to Monday afternoon, Colorado played four game; three against the Orioles and one versus the Diamondbacks. Across those match-ups, the good guys won three times, improving their record to 25-27 on the season.

But inching closer to .500 wasn’t what made the trio of victories special. The weekend was magical in Lodo because of the way the Rockies earned the W’s; all three wins came in dramatic, walk-off fashion.

Did you miss out on any of the fun? Below is a glimpse of how Colorado got it done this weekend.

On Friday night, Trevor Story got the magic started with a dramatic, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to power the Rockies to a win over the Orioles.

Two days later, it was Tony Wolters who came through in the clutch, hitting a sacrifice fly in the ninth to give Colorado the series win over Baltimore.

And on Memorial Day, they did it again. This time around, it was Ian Desmond and Raimel Tapia playing the hero roles.

Seasons can turn around when something seemingly impossible happens. Winning three games in walk-off fashion during Memorial Day weekend certainly qualifies.

Perhaps in September, the heroics of Story, Wolters and Tapia in late May will be the moments that ultimately righted the Rockies ship in 2019.
