Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan announced Tuesday that ESPN NHL analyst Barry Melrose will be joining the outlet throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs as its Colorado Avalanche insider.
“When you think about the experts covering the NHL, the biggest name in the business is Barry Melrose,” said Raj Sharan, 104.3 The Fan program director. “Barry will bring his unique and entertaining insight throughout the playoffs, as the Avalanche hopefully make a very deep run in hopes bringing home their third Stanley Cup to Denver.”
Aside from a brief stint as the Tampa Bay Lightning head coach in 2008, Melrose has been a full-time hockey analyst for ESPN since 1996.
Prior to joining the network, Melrose was the head coach of the Los Angeles Kings from 1992 to 1995. He also played 11 years (1979-‘86) as a defenseman in the NHL with Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings, along with spending three seasons (1976-’79) with the Cincinnati Stingers in the WHA.
