Stokley gives stamp of approval on Broncos new tight ends coach Harman

Jan 18, 2019, 7:52 AM

Continuing to fill out the rest of their coaching staff on Thursday, the Denver Broncos opted to hire veteran NFL assistant Wade Harman as its tight ends coach, a move that comes with the stamp of approval from Brandon Stokley.

Harman, the only coach who was a part of the both Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl wins (XXXV and XLVII), was also with the club during the “Stokley and Zach” co-host’s two stints with the team (1999 to 2002 and 2013).

“He’s a really good football coach, and he’s a good man. That’s a really good hire for the Denver Broncos,” Stokley said, adding that he really liked him a lot.

Former teammate, both with the Indianapolis Colts and Ravens, Dallas Clark said he “loved” Harman as well, Stokley said.

“In 2013, Dallas Clark also signed with the Ravens, and Dallas loved him. Dallas loved Wade as a football coach,” Stokley said.

And with good reason. During his tenure with the Ravens (15 seasons), Harman coached Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe and two-time Pro Bowler Todd Heap, along with helping develop Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson.

During that time, Baltimore’s tight ends totaled the sixth-most receptions (1,107) and seventh-most receiving yards (11,762) in the NFL while also grabbing 86 touchdowns.

Harman, who spent the past four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, also helped develop Austin Hooper into one of the league’s top talents at tight end. In his three seasons in the league, Hooper ranks among tight ends eighth in receptions (139) and is tied for 10th with 10 touchdowns.
