Big Al: If it came down to Munchak or Dennison, good job Elway

If the decision on whether to place Gary Kubiak in the offensive coordinator role came down to hiring Mike Munchak instead of Rick Dennison to coach the offensive line, then general manager John Elway made the right decision, said “The Drive” co-host Alfred “Big Al” Williams on Friday.
“If the decision was Mike Munchak or Rick Dennison, good job John Elway,” Williams said.
Lost in the shuffle of Friday’s news that Kubiak would not be stepping into the coordinator role from his senior personnel adviser position was that the Broncos are looking at Munchak for its offensive line coach role.
Also, reports on Friday indicate that the difference in philosophies that led to Kubiak and the Broncos breaking up included his desire to hire Dennison, who had been fired by the team just two seasons ago.
So, while it might “sting” to not see Kubiak as part of the Broncos coaching staff, Williams’ co-host Friday, Troy Renck, said gaining Munchak would be a coup for the team.
“If you land Mike Munchak, I’m telling you absent of everything else, that’s a good day,” Renck said.
Williams championed the same viewpoint, saying, “We are looking so damn good right now. I trust everything that’s about to happen with our offensive line. I think that all of our woes and our problems and our disappointments with this offensive line is going to change.”
Munchak, who had been a frontrunner for the Broncos head coaching job, is widely regarded as one of the top offensive line coaches in the NFL.
A Pro Football Hall of Famer as an offensive lineman himself, Munchak helped lead three Pittsburgh Steelers offensive linemen to Pro Bowl nods in 2018 — guard David DeCastro, center Maurkice Pouncey, and tackle Alejandro Villanueva.
