The Broncos may have chosen Vic Fangio as the team’s next head coach over Mike Munchak, but the runner up may land in Denver in 2019 anyway.
According to a report from NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Broncos have notified the Pittsburgh Steelers of their intention to speak with Munchak, whose contract as its offensive line coach is up, about a position on Denver’s coaching staff.
Munchak reportedly impressed the Broncos during his interview last week as part of the team’s search for a new head coach, and he also has family ties to the Denver area.
The Hall of Fame offensive lineman is regarded as one of the top coaches regarding that position group, leading three Steelers players to Pro Bowl nods in 2018.
The news of the Broncos seeking to meet with Munchak comes amid reports that the team will not place senior personnel adviser and former head coach Gary Kubiak back into the offensive coordinator role.
However, Denver 7 Insider Troy Renck reports that the team would want Munchak as its offensive line coach and not the coordinator role.
