Cross off the first of what could be a litany of history-making feats for Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay, as he became the first undrafted offensive player to make the Pro Bowl in his rookie season on Tuesday.
Just the third Broncos rookie ever selected to the NFL’s all-star game (David Treadwell, 1989, and Von Miller, 2011), Lindsay joins former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Everson Walls as the only other undrafted rookie to earn the honor.
In 14 games, and just seven starts, Lindsay has torn up opposing defenses to the tune of 991 yards on 182 rushes (5.5 yards per carry) and nine touchdowns. He’s the only NFL player currently in the top five in rushing yards, rushing average, and rushing touchdowns.
And with nine yards on the ground, Lindsay can become just the third undrafted running back in league history to cross the 1,000-yard mark in his rookie season.
Getting things done through the air as well, Lindsay has 33 receptions for 230 yards and one touchdown.
Von Miller will join Lindsay as well on the trip to Orlando this year, as the pass rusher was named to his fifth consecutive, and seventh overall, Pro Bowl roster.
A veteran of the game already through his career, Miller’s seven Pro Bowl nods is good enough for fourth all-time in Broncos history and a tie for first with Randy Gradishar among Denver linebackers.
On the season, Miller has started all 14 games, leading the Broncos with 14.5 sacks, which is also the second most in the NFL through Week 15. He’s also totaled 45 tackles, one interception, two passes defensed, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries on the season.
Just last week against the Cleveland Browns, Miller passed Ring of Fame linebacker Simon Fletcher for the most sacks (98) in franchise history.
A trio of Broncos could also be named to the Pro Bowl roster as alternates, including rookie linebacker Bradley Chubb, cornerback Chris Harris Jr., and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders.
The Pro Bowl will be played on Sunday, Jan. 27, at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. MST.
