More than just the playoff hopes of the Denver Broncos could be on the line against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. So could the job of head coach Vance Joseph.
“Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley said on Thursday that if the Broncos lose at home to the Browns, Joseph would be heading out of Denver.
“If you lose this game, Vance is gone. You just can’t recover from losing to the Cleveland Browns, after losing to the San Francisco 49ers, at home,” Stokley said. “You just can’t recover from that.”
Stokley said that Denver has to finish out the last three games of the season strong in order for Joseph to survive for another year, which means winning at least two of the remaining matchups.
“I think he comes back if they go 8-8. What does that 8-8 look like? That might play a part in it also,” Stokley said.
For example, if the Broncos get blown out by the Browns, Stokley said, it might be the “final straw.”
Earlier this week, “The Drive” co-host DMac said that, while not predicting this outcome, he could see an embarrassing loss happening to the Broncos on Saturday.
“If the Broncos aren’t careful, the Broncos could get blown out,” DMac said. “I’m not saying just lose. They could get blown out by the Browns on Saturday night.”
Stokley said he would be “surprised” and “shocked” if Cleveland manages to pull off a blow out, but his co-host, Zach Bye, said he could see it happening.
“Would I be shocked if the Browns, who have won three of their last four football games, who have a more talented team, who has a quarterback playing at a high level, came in here and won by double figures? Shocked would not be the adjective I would use,” Bye said.
