Pritchard: Case Keenum play of late the ‘mean’ for the Broncos QB

Dec 3, 2018, 11:56 AM | Updated: 4:47 pm

While not lighting up the stat sheet, Denver Broncos quarterback Case Keenum has played a clean brand of football the past four games, throwing four touchdowns and no interceptions.

The stats are a departure from a somewhat rocky start to Keenum’s tenure in Denver, which “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Mike Pritchard said on Monday could indicate the quarterback has leveled out his play.

“I think from here on out, this is what we’re going to get. You might skew it every once in a while to a higher level, but, for the most part, this is the mean of Case Keenum. This is the middle of Case Keenum,” Pritchard said.

“From here on out,” Pritchard said he thinks Broncos Country will see “steady play” from Keenum, and, hopefully, he doesn’t regress back to his interception-heavy ways from earlier this season.

Pritchard said he had hopes that Keenum might build off a career year with the Minnesota Vikings last season and become a “prolific passer.” And the Broncos, he believes, had that in mind early in the season as well.

“If you look at the offense, they certainly had designs on Case Keenum becoming that kind of quarterback. But Case Keenum didn’t have those designs because he was throwing to the other teams a lot and he wasn’t progressing,” Pritchard said. “He wasn’t going through reads. He destroyed his footwork in the pocket. And he lost confidence. He played timid.”

But the Broncos, Pritchard said, have appeared to adjusted to Keenum and his skillset, which has been apparent during a three-game winning streak.

“Any mark of a good team is to be able to adjust, and you look at Bill Musgrave, they clearly have adjusted to the ability level of Case Keenum,” Pritchard said.

For Broncos general manager George Paton, the draft able answer to the Broncos’ quarterback quandary doesn’t have to come in the first round. “I do think it is a good quarterback class. There’s seven, eight quarterbacks that we like that (we) think can play in the league one day,” Paton said during a pre-draft press […]
