Big Al: Wolfe ‘clearly disgruntled,’ could be last year with Broncos

Nov 14, 2018, 6:31 PM

Because he seems “unhappy,” Broncos defensive lineman Derek Wolfe may be playing his last season in Denver, “The Drive” co-host Alfred “Big Al” Williams said on Wednesday.

Speaking with The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala this week, Wolfe outlined exactly why he took less money to stay in Denver in January 2016, which he referred to as a “huge haircut,” and since then “everything has changed.”

Reacting to the comments from Wolfe, Williams said the Broncos need to “do something” because he’s “just too loud of a voice” in an already fractured locker room.

“I think you have to trade him at the end of the year because he’s clearly disgruntled,” Williams said. “He said enough at least three times this year. What do you think is going to happen?”

Williams said he thought the comments “appropriate” coming from a player who took an “under market value” deal.

Wolfe signed a four-year, $36.7 million deal with the Broncos just a few weeks before Denver went on to win Super Bowl 50 in early 2016, per Spotrac.com.

By comparison, former Broncos defensive tackle Malik Jackson signed a six-year, $85 million deal the following offseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“Derek Wolfe would have had no problems after winning the Super Bowl in 2015 getting Malik Jackson money,” said Williams’ co-host DMac.

Said Williams: “It’s got to really just eat at him.”
