Are the Broncos an attractive destination for prospective coaches?

“Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley said on Monday that should John Harbaugh become available as a head-coaching candidate, it would be a “great fit” for the Denver Broncos.

But on Tuesday, “Schlereth and Evans” co-hosts Mark Schlereth and Mike Evans said it might not be the most attractive landing spot for Harbaugh, or any top-tier coaching candidate.

“A coach like that is going to be in demand by multiple teams this offseason,” Evans said. “So, for a guy like that, he’s going to look at specific boxes to check about whether or not he wants that job — a quarterback in place, stable ownership, a general manager to work with.

“If you look at those as the criteria, I just don’t see how the Broncos match up.”

Chief among those criteria, Schlereth said, is the stability of the ownership situation and the quarterback, both which he said are negatives regarding the Broncos.

“You don’t have stability at the quarterback position. You don’t have stability within the ownership,” Schlereth said. “And if you have six different places to choose from or three different places to choose from, I would think that ownership and quarterback situations are better in the better places you’re going to have to choose from.”

Even for hot coaching candidates from the college game, like Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley, might choose other clubs to start their NFL career than the Broncos, Schlereth said.

“The most attractive or the first guys ‘off the board’ would go other places rather than come here,” Schlereth said.
