Stokley not ready yet for Broncos to concede AFC West to Chiefs

Brandon Stokley said on Friday that he’s OK with the Denver Broncos going out and drafting a quarterback, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to concede to the Kansas City Chiefs just yet.
The “Stokley and Zach” co-host said he believes drafting a quarterback and being competitive against the top team in the division have to be mutually exclusive.
“I’m OK with finding a quarterback and drafting a quarterback, but I don’t think I’m ready to concede to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Stokley said. “I’m not in that situation right now to where I’m ready to throw the towel in and say let me try to build this team for three years from now.”
The tune might be a little different, Stokley said, if the 2018 Broncos looked more like the 2017 team — not even staying competitive with opponents.
“But this year’s totally different. They’re close. They’re really, really close,” Stokley said. “And I don’t mind going out there and looking for a quarterback this year. They should. They don’t have to draft that guy in the first round. I’m not on board with conceding to the Kansas City Chiefs.”
Stokley’s co-host, Zach Bye, however said it doesn’t matter how the Broncos look or how close they feel, that a losing season at the end of the year is a losing season.
“How it looks doesn’t matter. It actually doesn’t matter because at the season’s end we aren’t going to look back, if you finish 7-9, and say hey, you know what, give the Broncos a pat on the back because they improved their win total by two games and they were more competitive and there was way less blowouts and we’re getting closer,” Bye said.
“That’s how it looks. That’s not what it is. It is a losing football team, back-to-back losing seasons highlighted by a heck of a lot of dysfunction, an undisciplined nature, and really, when it’s all said and done, we’ll be exactly where we were at the end of last season. You took two different routes to get there. One was a little less bumpy. But you arrived at the same destination nonetheless.”
