Stokley: No scenario in which Keenum isn’t with Broncos in 2019

Nov 8, 2018, 5:36 PM

Case Keenum will get at least another season to prove himself worth under center for the Denver Broncos, Brandon Stokley said.

However, what the future holds for the Broncos quarterback position remains up in the air, according to the “Stokley and Zach” co-host.

On Thursday, Stokley said he can’t see a scenario in which Keenum wouldn’t be back with the Broncos in 2019, especially since the team doesn’t have any other options.

“You still want a veteran guy. You still want that luxury of having that guy there,” Stokley said. “He’s not making outrageous money. So, you look at his situation and you look at your situation, and you don’t want to go into the draft and not have a veteran quarterback on your roster.”

Stokley said, however, that the Broncos still should go into the next year’s draft looking for a quarterback.

“You let that quarterback develop for a year. And if Case struggles and you think this guy’s ready, then you go ahead and throw him in there,” Stokley said. “But if he doesn’t, then after the following year you move on from Case. You just signed him to a two-year contract. Then you hand the reins over to this young guy.”

Keenum signed a two-year deal worth $36 million this offseason, per Spotrac.com.
