Big Al: King ‘put on notice’ as Broncos sign punter to practice squad

The Denver Broncos appear to be bringing in some competition at punter.
First reported by 9News’ Mike Klis, the Broncos will sign punter Colby Wadman to the practice squad just a few days after Marquette King’s rough day against the Baltimore Ravens.
“Marquette King has been put on notice,” said “The Drive” co-host Alfred “Big Al” Williams on Tuesday, adding it’s time to “shape up or ship out.”
King ranks toward the middle of the NFL pack in most punting statistical categories, including net average (15th) and punts inside the 20 (tied for 10th).
On Monday, head coach Vance Joseph criticized King, saying he had to “simply punt better.”
“No different than our corners have to play better in coverage and we’ve got to block better. He’s a football player, and he’s got to do his job,” Joseph said. “He’s got to punt better.”
However, it could be a combination of King’s on-field struggles and his off-field persona that could have his roster spot in peril, Williams said.
“We’ll tolerate you as long as you can play. If you can’t play, we’re not going to tolerate anything,” Williams said. “That’s what the NFL is.”
Recently, King trolled his former head coach, the Oakland Raiders’ Jon Gruden, after Denver’s victory over their AFC West foe in Week 2.

“At some point, you’re going to get tired of it. Whether this was the punter, whether this was the receiver or linebacker who was underperforming yet maybe doing too much in social media, you’d find a way to get rid of him,” Williams said. “That’s just the way it is in this game.”
