Lammey wants Broncos to send 1st-round pick for Cardinals’ Peterson

The Denver Broncos are looking for help at the cornerback position. That’s no secret.

In fact, general manager John Elway told 9News’ Mike Klis as much on Sunday.

“John Elway’s looking for quarterback help. Yeah, no kidding. He should be. This secondary has some big-time problem outside of guys named Chris Harris,” said “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey.

Who could be available and for what price is a trickier question to navigate, however.

On Tuesday, Lammey advocated for the Broncos to set sights high and aim for trading for Arizona Cardinals All-Pro Patrick Peterson, and doing so at any price.

“Pick up the phone, call up Arizona, and trade for Patrick Peterson. I know it’s a pipe dream, but that’s something that would fit and that would work,” Lammey said. “And what do you have to give up? I don’t care. Really.”

Lammey suggested giving up a first-round pick, saying that no pick from No. 1 to 32 in next year’s draft is better than Peterson.

“So, if you truly want to compete and if you want to get into the playoffs and you want to make a run, because all you have to do is get to the dance, then you’ve got to make a move,” Lammey said. “And you’ve got to be as aggressive as you possibly can.”

Since entering the NFL in 2011 as the fifth-overall pick, Peterson’s gone on to seven Pro Bowl and three All-Pro selections. Peterson has started each of the 115 games he’s played in since 2011, grabbing 22 career interceptions, 19 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, three sacks, and 316 tackles.

George Paton: Round 1 isn’t the only place where Broncos can find a quarterback

For Broncos general manager George Paton, the draft able answer to the Broncos’ quarterback quandary doesn’t have to come in the first round. “I do think it is a good quarterback class. There’s seven, eight quarterbacks that we like that (we) think can play in the league one day,” Paton said during a pre-draft press […]
