The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE IN STUDIO!!! Big Al says teams walk out on players all the time, and defends Vontae Davis a little. The boys argue over the Broncos remaining schedule & what their projected record should be, and DMac says he’s treating this Ravens game like a preseason game & he doesn’t even care.
We get a status update on the Colorado Rockies, and Big Al says it feels like the team is right there despite the division lead slipping away & Trevor Story’s UCL injury. DMac wonders if Al would be okay with sticking Desmond at Shortstop & Matt Holliday at 1st base. Big Al is ready to talk about Demaryius Thomas’ drops, and thinks DT may finish 2018 with the most dropped passes in the league. Also, DMac argues with Big Al about how the Broncos are going to get Phillip Lindsay more touches as the third-down back.
In the Big 3, DMac takes another shot at Emmanuel Sanders, and Big Al says Mike Tomlin is on the hot-seat after hearing about the drama with Antonio Brown. Al says Russell Wilson is being held back by coaching, and asks DMac if bad coaching can derail a season. Also, Big Al says teams walk out on players all the time, and defends Vontae Davis a little.
Big Al continues to defend Vontae Davis, and the way he decided to retire at halftime. Big Al mentions the double-standard in the NFL, and DMac thinks what Davis did should be considered ‘quitting.’
Big Al says Lorenzo Alexander will have his time in the NFL when he knows it’s time to quit, and Big Sexy compares Vontae Davis retiring in the middle of a game to a pilot retiring in the middle of a flight.
The guys takes some calls on the Vontae Davis story, and excuses are brought up for why Davis would retire at halftime, including mental health.
Al & DMac talk about teaching an old dog new tricks, and if there are levels of ‘clutch.’ DMac says the sad thing about Jon Gray right now is he doesn’t have it mentally, and it’s weird seeing guys at that level fall apart.
The guys take a look at the Rockies lineup without Trevor Story, and DMac points out that Bud Black must believe Parra gives the Rockies a better shot against Kershaw than Carlos Gonzalez. Al & DMac debate if Garrett Hampson is an offensive or defensive sub, and Big Al likes when the mic is focused on the crack of the MLB bat.
The guys talk about positives from the first few weeks of the NFL season, and DMac notes that he’s been thoroughly entertained by the majority of the action. Al tells DMac ESPN’s ratings are down, and DMac wants to see mobile & Netflix numbers involved when it comes to media ratings. Also, the boys argue over the Broncos remaining schedule & what their projected record should be, and DMac says he’s treating this Ravens game like a preseason game & he doesn’t even care.
Al explains to DMac why Emmanuel Sanders needs to see more targets than he did on Sunday, and DMac wonders about the coaching & playcalling. DMac finds a stat that can back up Sanders’ argument, and says it’s a mistake not getting Sanders involved early.
Al & DMac preview the Rockies matchup tonight against the LA Dodgers, and DMac can’t get enough of Kyle Freeland’s walkup music. Al says the Rockies have been hot and cold, but this lineup has been set for a while.
