The Drive with Big Al & Orlando Franklin LIVE IN STUDIO! ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter joins the show to talk about if there will be another NFL meeting to discuss & explain NFL rule changes, and why the Denver Broncos simply can’t go with Paxton Lynch.
Big Al says Training Camp 2018 looked a lot different than the Vikings game did on Saturday, and it seemed like Denver was forcing passes to Courtland Sutton. Orlando tells Al there was no offensive identity for the Broncos, and he’s still unsure about the O-Line. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter joins the show to talk about if there will be another NFL meeting to discuss & explain NFL rule changes, and why the Denver Broncos simply can’t go with Paxton Lynch. Adam tells the guys he would ‘absolutely not’ be shocked if the Broncos listed Kelly ahead of Lynch on the depth chart, but it’s only one game & Kelly hasn’t quite done enough yet. Listen to the interview HERE! Big Al wonders if Chad Kelly being elevated to the QB2 position on the depth chart is the right move, and Big O highlights the importance of pass protection when it comes to the Broncos young running backs. Also, why Royce Freeman is a bit suspect & why Denver needs to practice harder. Big Al notices Denver’s biggest problem is their inability to stop the run, and point out gap-control as a main reason why. Orlando says the Minnesota Vikings were more prepared, and the Vikings simply communicated better.
Big Al explains what comes with taking a QB in the first round, and Orlando notices the difference in a fully healthy Paxton Lynch and a fully healthy Chad Kelly. Al goes over his notes on the Broncos first preseason game, and points out one play in particular that caught his eye Chad Kelly could complete & Paxton Lynch could not. Orlando says Paxton cannot look to run all the time, or it becomes a nightmare, and questions Paxton’s love of football. Big Al talks about Phillip Lindsay’s veteran moves, and why he was impressed with Jeff Holland. Al asks Orlando why Billy Turner struggles in games, and we hear audio from Vance Joseph’s press conference LIVE as VJ names Chad Kelly the second-string quarterback. Big Al asks Orlando if we should feel bad for Paxton, and Orlando says it was a great day for the Kelly family. Orlando says you either have it or you don’t as an NFL QB, and Big Al laughs about Paxton’s new ‘Go Fund Me’ page.
Al wonders if the Broncos will go shopping for a backup QB, and Orlando goes over the differences in Peyton’s playbook & the rest of the league. Al says there is no longer room for error, and he’s proud of the Broncos for making the move with Paxton. The boys take calls on if benching Paxton was the right move, and if Chad Kelly should be given a real shot as the Broncos backup QB. Also, Al makes sure if it was the right decision not to play Von Miller. The guys finish up their calls about Chad Kelly being named to second string, and Al says our linebackers had a terrible game. Al doesn’t want to gamble on Kelly, and Orlando says it depends on this week against the Bears.
