Big Al: ‘Buyer’s remorse’ with Broncos not drafting QB Josh Rosen

In an interview with “Bickely & Marotta” on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station this week, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson said he was “blown away” by what he saw in rookie quarterback Josh Rosen.

A former first-round pick himself, the three-time All-Pro said it “blew (his) mind” to watch Rosen, fresh from being drafted out of UCLA at No. 11-overall, “orchestrate the offense in a proper manner.”

“The future is definitely here with the Cardinals,” Peterson said. “I just don’t know when he’ll get his shot.”

It’s those comments coming from a seven-time Pro Bowler in Peterson that had “The Drive” host Alfred Williams feeling a bit of “buyer’s remorse” in terms of the Denver Broncos passing up Rosen in this year’s NFL Draft.

“This young quarterback that they drafted at No. 11 is the guy that we could have had. It feels like a Dan Marino type of story that’s about to be written,” Williams said. “Nine teams in front of me passed on me.”

Williams said his feelings have nothing to do with the Broncos top pick Bradley Chubb, who went No. 5-overall, but rather that he feels Rosen exudes the qualities of the “other great quarterbacks who have played in this league” — smarts, strength, and savvy.

“Now I’m starting to think that if Rosen ends up being this all-time great, this may be the biggest snafu that we can ever imagine,” Williams said.

And with that in mind, Williams said the Broncos plan with Case Keenum needs to be a decade-long success, and one featuring a championship run, because Rosen will likely play “15 years-plus.”

“We have to yield a Super Bowl out of Case Keenum for this to work because … what you’re saying is that there is a high likelihood that the Arizona Cardinals will be in playoff contention every single year, every year going forward,” Williams said.
