Al points out the opportunity Denver had to bring in Colin Kaepernick, and CJ tells Al to stop making excuses.
CJ calls out Big Al for his support of Paxton Lynch, Brock Osweiler & Trevor Siemian, and Al defends himself, pointing out the coordinators holding the QBs back & the playoff run Osweiler went on as a member of the Houston Texans. Al points out the opportunity Denver had to bring in Colin Kaepernick, and CJ tells Al to stop making excuses. In the Big 3, Al & CJ talk about Nick Stevens & Christian Hackenberg, and if young QBs in the league are affected by the new CBA. Al tells CJ it’s a talent thing, and CJ thinks it’s a numbers game. Also, Al recognizes what a legendary team the Golden State Warriors are, and CJ asks about the ‘Showtime’ Lakers & ‘Bad-Boy’ Pistons. The guys talk about OTAs & minicamp coming to an end, and Al is upset about a certain Trey Marshall hit on a Broncos offensive player. Big Al wants to see Denver ride the hot hand & get the Tackles some help if they’re struggling.
The guys talk about the 1991 NFL Draft, and if Big Al would’ve done anything differently. CJ asks Al about breaking down & crying on draft day, and Al remembers those that were happy for him. Al mentions teams holding the best players’ rights, and asks for the NFL to do away with the franchise tag. Al says this playbook will reflect what Case Keenum wants to run, and that might hurt Paxton’s game even more. CJ doesn’t believe in separate playbooks, and tells Al about modifying packages to take advantage of players’ skill-sets. Al tells CJ he feels good about Case Keenum & who the Broncos could be. CJ asks Al to evaluate Case Keenum’s career, and Al sums it up with the word ‘journeyman’ because coaches didn’t know how to get the best out of him. Big Al compares Ben Roethlisberger & Tom Brady as young QBs to Case Keenum in the beginning of his career. Big Al marks 5,000 yards passing as the number to reach for defenses to respect a QB, and CJ says 5,000 yards passing means your defense wasn’t very good. CJ always starts with a great defense, and Al always starts with a great running game. Also, CJ explains why he loves Phillip Lindsay.
Al says the Broncos coaches are still a mess, and he would be suspicious about coming to Denver if he was drafted here in 2018. Big Al says Von Miller is in his Hall-of-Fame years right now, and the Broncos need DeMarcus Ware there full-time to consult Bradley Chubb. The guys talk about Kellen Winslow Jr. and the recent charges against him. Big Al says Winslow Jr. has some serious problems, and remembers the kind of guy Kellen Winslow Sr. was and is today. CJ and Al talk about transitioning athletes from the NFL game, and the issues players face when they get done playing. Big Al wishes all the dads a happy Father’s Day, and notes the differences in being a dad after your kid is out of high school. Also, the guys give shout-outs to the upcoming weekend & Vance Joseph.
