Big Al: Broncos QB Nick Stevens ‘a better player’ than Josh Allen

Wyoming’s Josh Allen earned a top-10 selection in this year’s NFL Draft, going No. 7-overall to the Buffalo Bills. But it’s his counterpart down the road, ex-CSU quarterback Nick Stevens, whom Alfred Williams says was a “better player.”

Just hours after Stevens signed as an undrafted college free agent with the Denver Broncos, Williams said on Thursday there’s “no doubt” Stevens was better than Allen.

“Nick Stevens, just breaking him down last year doing the NFL Draft, I thought he was good,” said “The Drive” host.

Williams’ co-host, DMac, echoed the sentiment, saying that Stevens was “really impressive” coming out of the Mountain West.

“Not only was Nick Stevens first-team, the kid from Boise State (Brett Rypien) was second-team,” DMac said. “Josh Allen wasn’t first- or second-team in the Mountain West.”

In 41 games over four seasons at CSU, Stevens completed 61.9 percent of his passes (638 completions) for 8,554 yards and 70 touchdowns while throwing 27 interceptions.

Comparatively, Allen completed 56.2 percent of his passes (365 completions) for 5,066 yards and 44 touchdowns with 21 interceptions in 27 games over three seasons.

While throwing more interceptions than Allen, Stevens threw for more yards per game, touchdowns per game, and had a higher quarterback rating (148.7 to 137.7).

“Now granted, Nick Stevens had Michael Gallup, who was a finalist for Biletnikoff Award. … And Josh Allen didn’t have anybody like that,” DMac said.

Said Williams, of Allen: “But he was No. 7 overall. Bad decision.”
