The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! Whacky Wednesday begins, and Big Al draws the Cleveland Browns & the first pick in the draft, which he uses to take QB Sam Darnold. DMac gets a ton of calls about the number four pick, and makes a trade with Buffalo.
The guys hear from Chris Harris Jr. about the draft & what the players want Elway to do. Big Al says all jobs are temporary, even the ones in the NFL. John Elway is finding his direction with the team and as a GM, and DMac says Elway’s drafts the last five years have been abysmal. Also, we catch up on the latest news out of Cleveland & if there are some smoke-screens going on. In the Big 3, the guys hear from Condoleezza Rice on the one-and-done rule in college athletics, and what the NCAA should do about time ticking. DMac is fired up about Meek Mill’s big day, and Al thinks everything happening for the 76ers feels right. DMac tells Big Al what Melo has that KD & LeBron never will, and explains Nolan Arenado’s WAR to Al & why Nolan’s is so high compared to other athletes, even Todd Helton. Also, why Al still likes Eli Manning over tom Brady.
Big Al won’t admit Baker Mayfield is a top prospect, and it drives DMac crazy. Also, DMac previews The Drive’s ‘whacky Wednesday’ draft. Al & DMac discuss whether NFL players should have any say when it comes to the NFL draft, and Big Al says Saquon Barkley is head & shoulders above the rest of the running backs in the draft, including Sony Michel & Nick Chubb. Big Al’s CB Big Board pops off, and Big Al mentions CU Buffs standout Isaiah Oliver as a name to keep in mind when draft day rolls around. Also, why Al does not have Denzel Ward from Ohio State listed as his top corner. The boys dive into round two of their ‘Whacky Wednesday’ mock draft, with DMac in control of the Broncos pick at No. 5 overall. Big Al says the only way the Broncos make a trade in the draft is for an impact player. The guys agree if Denver loves Bradley Chubb, they must know he’s going to go in the top-5, and if the Broncos desperately want a QB they have to trade all the way up to the No. 2 pick in the draft to get him. DMac tells Al a story about his dumb injury while helping his son with his prom-posal, and asks Al about the Broncos making their picks LIVE from Casa Bonita.
