The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! Rockies Beat Writer for the Denver Post Patrick Saunders joins the show to talk about the Rockies recent run of success, and the weather in Pittsburgh lately.
Al & DMac talk about the Avs game at home last night, and hear from Elway on how the QBs should be stacked ahead of the 2018 NFL Draft. DMac notes that Elway has only four QBs picked out, and that Denver has only visited with Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield & Allen. Al talks about Elway’s comment on the cerebral Peyton Manning changing his mind about QBs, and DMac explains why Paxton was a terrible choice & why Denver loves Darnold. The boys decide just how close the Avs are to winning another championship, and Big Al tells DMac Bradley Chubb could possibly be the best player in the draft. Al & DMac agree Elway has learned a lot since he first started doing this job, and now trusts himself to make the pick instead of letting others do it for him. Also, Big Al wonders who will be the number one pick in the draft. The fellas talk about Denver possibly picking up the option on Shane Ray’s contract, and if that opens the door for Bradley Chubb to be drafted by the Broncos. Teams that could jump the Broncos at pick No. 5 overall are listed, and Big Al says watch out for the Colts & Jets to shake things up. The guys talk about John Elway’s core beliefs, and DMac mentions Elway’s evolution through the years. Big Al can’t believe how successful Tom Brady has been since entering the league, and names Brady as the prototype QB in the league for years to come. Big Al breaks down his Big Board for Guards and Centers in the 2018 NFL Draft. Players on Big Al’s board include Isaiah Wynn out of Georgia & Will Hernandez out of UTEP. DMac asks Al if there’s any pressure for the Broncos to start a young QB on Day 1 of the regular season, and why the Jets are going with Josh McCown & Teddy Bridgewater just to bring a young QB along.
Al & DMac debate who the Broncos have their eye on, and Big Al can’t wait to rub it in DMac’s face when the Broncos draft Saquon Barkley or Bradley Chubb. DMac is concerned about next year’s draft class, and Al says DMac has a terrible ‘poker face.’ Also, Al explains why he was so happy about Paxton Lynch being drafted. The guys decide what the Broncos should do at pick No. 5 overall, and DMac takes some calls on why he’s been flip-flopping about John Elway. The NFL schedule is about to be released, and Al & DMac decide what teams they want to see in the first weeks of the season. DMac defends his stance on Saquon Barkley, and notes a few RBs that will be available in the later rounds that are comparable to Saquon.
