The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! Robert Klemko of Sports Illustrated & The MMQB joins the show to talk about Baker Mayfield working with fresh receivers & transfers, and Baker working with a skeleton crew compared to other schools.
Stoke sticks around to talk Baker Mayfield, and DMac finally puts his foot in the ground, saying Baker is the Broncos’ pick. DMac teases the interview with Robert Klemko, and Big Al points out that if you look at the whole package with Mayfield, that’s why you won’t like the guy. Al asks if any team has as much collective talent in the draft as Oklahoma, and DMac says Josh Allen single-handedly turned around a garbage program in Wyoming. DMac tells Big Al he’s looking forward to the Avs game tonight, and the boys decide who will be selected with the top five picks in the NFL Draft. Also, Peyton Manning is inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. The guys talk about Baker Mayfield’s photographic memory, and draw similarities between Mayfield’s way of thinking and Peyton Manning’s.
Big Al says Tom Brady is the total package, and DMac runs through the list of all Baker’s challenges, including walking on twice. DMac says walking on at Texas Tech might have been even harder for Baker than walking on at Oklahoma, and this is not just a Disney story with Mayfield. Big Al remembers those he’s met with photographic memories like Baker Mayfield, and says they are all successful. Al says he’s always had Mayfield ahead of Josh Allen, and it’s all about what a QB has upstairs. Al fears Baker is too small, and notes that most of the successful QBs in the AFC are big guys. Big Al says this is the time players need to be careful as the draft approaches, and notes Laremy Tunsil as an example of a sad NFL draft story. Al runs through his Big Board of Offensive Tackles, and says mentality, attitude & physical tools are important. Names on Al’s board include Kolton Miller & Mike McGlinchey. Robert Klemko of Sports Illustrated & The MMQB joins the show to talk about Baker Mayfield working with fresh receivers & transfers, and Baker working with a skeleton crew compared to other schools. Klemko mentions Baker’s ability to open things up his senior year, and his capabilities to shift the line pre-snap worked toward Baker’s advantage. Klemko says the best thing about Baker is how candid he is, and notes Baker says whatever is on his mind. Listen to the interview HERE!
The guys talk about Avs ticket restrictions to prevent Predator fans from attending their playoff games at Pepsi Center, and Al wonders how the Avs have been able to show Pekka Rinne the door so quickly. Also, DMac decides if winning tonight gives the Avs an advantage in the series. Big Al & DMac talk about how many goals will be scored in the Avs game tonight, and DMac says PK Subban’s comment about MacKinnon is only to get the Avs fired up. Also, the boys decide if the fans at Pepsi Center are bandwagon fans. Big Al still wonders about the chants at Pepsi Center, and DMac breaks down the analytics of the Avs series & why Patrick Roy bailed. DMac mentions why Colorado had to get rid of Duchene, and the importance of having players in the locker room that want to be here.
