Broncos DE Adam Gotsis arrested in connection with 2013 rape charge

Denver Broncos defensive end Adam Gotsis surrendered himself to Atlanta police last week in connection with a 2013 incident in which he allegedly raped a 25-year old woman.

Gotsis turned himself into the Fulton County jail late last Wednesday after investigators secured a warrant charging him with strong-armed rape, Atlanta Police Department spokesperson Stephanie Brown said in an email to 104.3 The Fan.

The Denver Post first reported the story.

According to Atlanta police, a 30-year-old woman reported to police on Feb. 1 that she had been sexually assaulted by Gotsis after a party in March 2013 during his first season at Georgia Tech.

The woman, then 25, said she had met Gotsis through a mutual friend and attended a party with him on March 9, 2013, after which she said he took her home and raped her.

In a statement to the media, the Broncos said:

“We were recently informed of an investigation into an alleged incident involving Adam Gotsis that occurred in 2013 when he was in college. Our organization was aware of his arrest on March 7, and it is our understanding that no determination has been made at this time as to whether any charges will be filed.

“The Broncos take an accusation of this nature very seriously and will continue to closely monitor the legal proceedings. This issue was promptly reported to the NFL as soon as we learned of it, and we will remain in communication with the league office regarding this matter.”

The Australian-born Gotsis became the highest-drafted player from the country in league history when the Broncos selected him in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

During two seasons with the Broncos, Gotsis has seen time in 32 games, garnering 2.0 sacks and 33 tackles.
