The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! Troy Renck of Denver7 joins the show to talk about the MLB rule changes to try and speed up the pace-of-play, and the latest with Kirk Cousins’ transition tag drama.
DMac gets into the Bowlen process, and what’s next for the trust & the Broncos. DMac expects Denver to land the NFL Draft in 2020, and asks Al if he sees the Bowlens grinding the gears for years or trying to win now with time remaining. Big Al says its been so long since Denver drafted & developed a QB, he wonders if they still know how. Also, why drafting a QB to be the future for the next five years can be a risky option. Wolfe, Talib & Anderson are becoming afterthoughts as the Broncos try to clear cap space for Kirk Cousins. Big Al says every player should try to land the deal Cousins is after, and DMac says it’s all about supply & demand. DMac plays audio from Fergie’s historic rendition of the National Anthem, and Big Al says he gets what she was trying to do with adding a jazz twist.
Big Al talks about franchise tags for LeVeon Bell & Kirk Cousins, and the guys agree it’s all about the guaranteed money & making Cousins feel loved. Also, the aftermath from Russell Wilson’s megadeal in Seattle. Big Al takes a look at Russell Wilson’s contract, and tries to figure out how the Broncos can avoid being in a similar situation three years from now with Kirk Cousins as their starter. DMac says they don’t make guys like Von Miller & Aqib Talib every year, and Al explains why Denver must find their own Alvin Kamara & why he’s fine with a four-year deal for Kirk Cousins. Big Al & DMac hit the listeners with their Olympics update, including the ice dancing wardrobe malfunction, overall medal count, and advantages of being on the juice in curling. Troy Renck of Denver7 joins the show to talk about the MLB rule changes to try and speed up the pace-of-play, and the latest with Kirk Cousins’ transition tag drama. Troy says the punishment for too many mound visits could be throwing a player out or forcing a pitcher to leave the game. Also, the evolving relationship between the Bowlen children and the NFL, and why even Darian Stewart is vulnerable in Denver. Listen to the interview HERE!
Al says with Elway as GM, it’s embarrassing how badly the Broncos have drafted on the offensive side of the ball. DMac dives into Woody Paige’s article about the Bowlen trust, and mentions that it’s a complicated situation & there’s a lot we don’t know about. Also, NFL Draft scenarios, DMac says maybe Elway has too much power, and Al explains Elway wanted to move on from Kubiak last year so he could have a more explosive offense, it just didn’t work out. Big Al cautions the listeners about Gary Kubiak, and remembers Kubiak bringing in Matt Schaub when he was in Houston instead of drafting a top-tier QB. Big Al says the Broncos don’t have the luxury of roster depth that other NFL teams have, and Siemian won’t be here next year. Big Al says it’s obvious Lindsey Vonn works out when you shake her hand, and the guys talk about the upcoming Olympics events tonight and if they are excited for them. Also, the guys take some calls on NFL Draft scenarios that could work out for Denver.
