The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! Jim Owczarski of the Enquirer in Cincinnati joins the show to talk about AJ McCarron’s grievance hearing after the Bengals put McCarron on the non-football injury list to start the 2014 NFL season, and why McCarron is using the situation to his advantage after waiting to pull the trigger until Cincy held on to him.
For Valentine’s Day, the guys talk about DeAndre Ayton and the Arizona Wildcats, and if the Colorado Buffaloes have what it takes to make it in the PAC-12. Al wonders if there’s any money in college basketball, and if DMac is excited to see the bobby Knight 30-for-30. In the Big 3 @ 3:30, DMac asks Al what he thinks about Shaun White after he wins his third gold medal in the clutch at the Winter Olympics, and Al wonders what it means to be the NFL Combine’s fastest man. The guys remember John Ross’ 40-time and debate whether the record can be broken in 2018. Also, the state of Boston sports talk radio in today’s market and Bill Haas’ injuries following a fatal car wreck on Tuesday in LA. Big Al brings up Terrell Owens’ HOF resume, and says it makes no sense why TO had to wait so long to get into The Hall. DMac is quick to note that he doesn’t reward crybabies, and has a different opinion on TO than Big Al does.
The guys talk about the defining parts of Kirk Cousins’ personality, and the significance of Denver hiring Loren Landow as their strength & conditioning coach. DMac says the hire of Landow is brilliant, as a lot of Broncos already train with him. Listen to the interview HERE! Al wants to know more about the Houston Texans’ relationship with the Denver Broncos when it comes to trades, and DMac dives into Alex Guerrero’s odd relationship with Tom Brady. Also, what Big Al sees in AJ McCarron & why McCarron will struggle to win his grievance against the NFL and have his release from the Bengals granted. The guys talk about QBs in the red-zone and their stats. Big Sexy throws out some names of quarterbacks that have a high red-zone efficiency rating when it comes to touchdowns compared to number of interceptions.
Al hears the callers’ frustration about Von Miller, and the Broncos not being an elite team despite paying Miller elite money to rack up 10 sacks a season. Also, if VJ can develop a successful offense in Denver with low-percentage plays, or if the Broncos need to keep it simple. The guys take some calls about Baker Mayfield, and if he is a Drew Brees type of player. Big Al says Lamar Jackson has the most upside of the QBs in the draft, and DMac asks where Colin Kaepernick is right now. Al & DMac talk about the Big Alentine’s Day giveaway, and Al offers up a big THANK YOU to Hand & Stone Massage & Facial Spa, Del Friscos and Miro Jewelers. The winner is announced on the air, and gets to thank Big Al LIVE on the show! The guys finish up the show taking calls on if John Elway’s beliefs prevented Colin Kaepernick from being signed in or traded to Denver. Big Al says there were at least 10 teams that could have used Kaep, and DMac says it’s not important to know John Elway’s political views.
