Broncos DT Domata Peko to compete against NFL players in talent show

Jan 22, 2018, 12:00 AM | Updated: 2:25 am

Though the Denver Broncos won’t have any meaningful competition until August, at least one member of its locker room — defensive tackle Domata Peko — will be in competition this week.

Peko, a talented guitarist off the field, will join a handful of NFL players in a contest to be crowned “MVP: Most Valuable Performer.”

The talent show, which will hold its finale Thursday at 6 p.m. MT on CBS, pits NFL players against each other to determine who has the best off the field talent. The contest kicked off Dec. 1, and fans whittled down the field of 32 by voting at via Sports Illustrated’s website, SI.com.

The other finalists include Brandon Williams, Justin Tucker, and Alex Collins of the Baltimore Ravens, Jonathan Stewart of the Carolina Panthers, and Kevin Zeitler of the Cleveland Browns.

An alternate alongside Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, Peko takes the place of Cody and Jacob Hollister, who’ll be heading to Super Bowl LII with the New England Patriots.

Fellow Broncos Corey Nelson and Max Garcia also participated in the contest but did not make the finals.

Peko, who joined the Broncos last offseason, learned guitar as a child at his father’s church in Pago Pago, American Samoa, according to his bio on a SI.com, and uses his talent to spend quality time with his three sons and to “woo his wife.”

A Pro Bowl alternate, Peko would have had plans next week either way. Had the Jacksonville Jaguars advanced to the Super Bowl instead, he would have replaced Jags defensive tackle Malik Jackson on the roster.
