The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! Keith Burns joins the show to talk about star college receivers being told to become gunners & why it takes a certain mentality to be efficient in the special teams game. Hall of Fame Broncos RB Terrell Davis joins the show to talk about the Broncos HOF fan appreciation weekend and dinner coming up on Saturday.
DMac mentions Emmanuel Sanders after Denver’s loss to the Patriots, and if players should be putting anything out there on social media after a loss at home. DMac wonders when the last time the Broncos’ superstars put together a budget or saved coupons to go to the grocery store with, and compares dealing with Denver’s athletes to dealing with kids. Keith Burns joins the show to talk about star college receivers being told to become gunners & why it takes a certain mentality to be efficient in the special teams game. Keith says offensive & defensive awareness are both required in kick and punt coverage. Keith says it’s not as easy as throwing 11 guys out there, he is focused on being great & putting in the extra effort and attention. Also, Keith mentions that the athletes that are making a lot of money aren’t asked to do as much on special teams because the risk is so high, but whoever has the best hands needs to be catching punts for the Denver Broncos. Listen to the interview HERE! In the Big 3 @ 3:30, the guys discuss the Carolina Panthers win on Monday Night Football over the Miami Dolphins, and Big Al says there is no quarterback in the NFL that means more to their team than Cam Newton does to the Panthers. DMac draws Carson Wentz as a similar comparison. Hall of Fame Broncos RB Terrell Davis joins the show to talk about the Broncos HOF fan appreciation weekend and dinner coming up on Saturday. Big Al asks Terrell about all those that came out to pay their respects & show support for him at his Hall of Fame induction, and TD mentions how hard it was to get around to everyone. TD says his kids just want him to be ‘dad’ and he never thought in his wildest dreams that he’d become friends with Jim Brown. Davis says the Broncos never found their groove after the Dallas game, and there has been too much stress put on the defense. TD says Denver’s QB situation is not ideal, and there will be problems until that is figured out. Listen to the interview HERE!
Dmac says Cam Newton has refined his game & is no longer throwing off his back foot, and the guys agree it’s fun to watch Cam use his legs in tandem with Christian McCaffrey. DMac previews USC vs UCLA this weekend, and Big Al says Sam Darnold has a great arm & should come out of college & enter the NFL draft. The Broncos waive Kasim Edebali, and DMac says there’s no reason to fire guys once the season is over. Big Al mentions Heath Shuler, and the guys debate when Denver should bite the bullet on drafting Paxton Lynch. The fellas take some calls on if Vance Joseph had the credentials to be the head coach of the Denver Broncos, and Al finds out if DMac wants to make another change. Al says the Broncos coaches still think they have a playoff run in them, the Denver head coaching gig is the worst in football, and we no longer have a championship defense. Dmac breaks down the Cincinnati Bengals, and says they are not a productive team. It’s not like the Broncos are a productive beacon, but DMac likes that we are matching up against a struggling offense. Al says we had a chance against the Patriots, but we need to score points in the initial possessions.
Big Al says just because bad things happen to you on special teams doesn’t mean you’re completely out of a game. Al says if we have the championship defense everyone says we do, we would have gone to the Super Bowl last season. Also, DMac talks about Booker’s missed tackle on Dion Lewis, plus onside kicks & their success rate.
