‘Drive a Scout to Camp’ tees off to aid Denver-area youth – sponsored

There’s a line in the Boy Scouts of America oath, wedged right there in the middle, that goes “To help other people at all times.”

The mission of the Boy Scouts is to “prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes …”

And on Monday, Sept. 11, the Denver-area community will not only help Scouts along that path but also demonstrate those core values once instilled in them.

During the last decade, the Denver Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America has raised thousands upon thousands in financial aid for Scouts who otherwise might not be able to attend camp through its “Drive a Scout to Camp Golf Classic.

This time last year, the Denver Area Council tournament raised more than $120,000 to aid its camp programs, and with that momentum the group hopes to make a significant dent in the more than $1 million needed to provide assistance to youth who would not be able to participate in Scouting programs, including Learning for Life, Leadership Assistance Program, and STEM Scouts.

In 2016, more than 15,000 youths participate in the Scout programs at Camp Tahosa and Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch.

The “Drive a Scout to Camp” Golf Classic helps in allowing the Denver Area Council provide a high-quality experience — which often times is one of the most memorable and positive experiences for those involved — at a reduced price.

Held this year at the Sanctuary Golf Course in Sedalia, the tournament’s location pairs well with the mission of the event itself.

The vision of RE/MAX co-founder Dave Liniger, Sanctuary has embraced a philosophy of stewardship that’s allowed it to host more than 400 charity events over 19 seasons, garnering $86 million for non-profit organizations.

The “Drive a Scout to Camp” Golf Classic kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, and runs until 4:30 p.m.
