The Drive with Big Al & Cecil LIVE in studio! Al makes a hypothetical steak dinner bet with Cecil on if Brock Osweiler will get cut by the Browns & if the Texans will make it to the second round of the ’17 NFL Playoffs. The guys hear from Joe Ellis out at Dove Valley on Elway’s new deal, and G Allen Barbre on his first thoughts when he heard about being traded to the Broncos.
John Elway, Joe Ellis, Demaryius Thomas, Vance Joseph & Von Miller all spoke at the media BBQ today out at Dove Valley ahead of Broncos Training Camp ’17. Cecil tries to get Al excited about Paxton Lynch once again, and the guys debate how much confidence to dump into a first round pick. The guys talk about the new stadium partnership & Joe Ellis saying they will keep the stadium name of Sports Authority until a new deal is in place. Also, the Broncos make a deal for Guard Allen Barbre & the guys hear from Barbre on his first thoughts when he heard he had been traded to Denver.
Al challenges Cecil to name the successful Alabama offensive lineman in the NFL, and notices a key factor in many successful NFL play-callers. Big Al asks Cecil what the improvement in John Elway’s title means & what they should be prepared for when they interview Vance Joseph. The guys hear from Joe Ellis on Elway’s new deal, and decide what it means for Denver moving forward. Also, Cecil and Al want to know from the listeners what questions they should be asking Vance Joseph, and if Jeff Heuerman even makes the 53-man roster. Finally, Johnny Love snaps a chair during Vance Joseph’s presser.
John Elway says he’s grateful to the Broncos organization & he always knew a deal would get done. Al remembers Jumpy Geathers & his forklift move, and says Jumpy was one of the most dominant football players he ever played with. Cecil asks Al what kind of moments we are going to see, like big pass plays or big hits, and Big Al wants to know who everyone is excited to see when the Broncos put on pads. Al & Cecil disagree about Adam Gotsis being an edge-setting rusher, and Al mentions the linebackers available to push plays back inside. Al says he doesn’t need to see Jamaal Charles until week four, because we know he’s a game-breaker, and Cecil wants to see some fight out of Jeff Heuerman & A.J. Derby.
