The Drive with Big Al & Cecil LIVE in studio! Gary Kubiak returns to the Broncos as Senior Personnel Advisor, and Big Al is a bit shocked, even though he knew Kubiak wanted to be around football. Cecil mentions health reasons, and Al said Kubiak made it clear why he was leaving. The Broncos have made the QB competition an open one, and Cecil says it’s to see what Paxton Lynch can do. Troy Renck joins the show to talk about the surprising move by the Broncos to bring back Gary Kubiak as an advisor.
Big Al is not quite sure why Mike Shanahan isn’t involved with the Broncos again, and says Elway, Kubiak & Shanahan should always have a role with the team, and are forever grateful to the organization. Al can’t believe the Broncos won the Super Bowl & got rid of nearly their entire offensive line, and now he’s watching them do it all over again. Al says since Denver hired Vance Joseph, he’s been saying it’s Paxton’s job unless he falls on his face, and pushes for guaranteed contracts in the case of Lucky Whitehead.
The ’17 NFL season is off to a weird start with Lucky Whitehead being released by the Dallas Cowboys & the NFL releasing new information regarding CTE statistics when it comes to NFL players. Al talks about the new NFL rest day schedule, and Cecil mentions the Heads-Up program as ways of balancing out the statistics a little in the future. Big Al says the All-Rookie team is an indicator of what players could develop into All-Pros, and the guys debate Garett Bolles or other options. Troy Renck joins the show to talk about the surprising move by the Broncos to bring back Gary Kubiak as an advisor. Troy says it’s the perfect fit, because Kubiak can scout from closer to his home in Texas, and Troy mentions the’scout’s eye’ Kubiak possesses. Listen to the interview HERE!
Al gives Cecil a scenario where Paxton Lynch never sees the field as a Denver Bronco again, and hangs on tight when Cecil tells him whether or not the Broncos have a TE or RB that can win one-on-one situations. Al promises Cecil the callers have zero faith in C.J. Anderson to carry the load for a full season anymore, and the guys debate how many yards on the ’17 season would make C.J. a superstar. Al even takes Spencer Ware over C.J. and is happy Chauncey Billups didn’t take the job in Cleveland.
