Story returns from 10-day DL, Rockies option Hoffman to Triple-A

Just as quickly as starting pitcher Jeff Hoffman got the call-up to the big league squad, the Colorado Rockies optioned the right-hander back to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday to make room for shortstop Trevor Story, who is coming off the 10-day disabled list.
For the Rockies, Hoffman put 7 innings of 3-hit, 1-run baseball with 7 strikeouts in Colorado’s 8-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies Monday evening.
Thanks for the spot start kid. Now back to the Isotopes.
According to ESPN.com’s “Elias Says” blog, Hoffman helped the Rockies tie the longest winning streak by rookie starts in club history. Colorado had rookie starter winning streaks of seven games in both 2002 and 2016.
Story, in his second year, returns to the club for the first time since May 10, when he injured his shoulder.
At the time of the injury, Story had been hitting just .180 with an OPS of .685 in 33 games this season.
The early slump comes on the heels of a strong rookie campaign, which ended due to injury just shy of 100 games, wherein Story hit .272 with an OPS of .909 and 27 home runs. He finished fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting.
The Rockies, whose win last night pulls them with 1.5 games of the Houston Astros for the best record in baseball, take on the Phillies again Tuesday night in game two of a four-game set. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. MT.
