The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! Garett Bolles meets with the Denver media after being selected by the Broncos with the 20th pick overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Big Al thinks the Broncos could have done better, and the guys go out to Dove Valley to gauge Tyler Polumbus’ thoughts on the pick, and check in with Cecil Lammey LIVE from Philadelphia to see if the Broncos are set to trade up in the second round.
The first thing Garett Bolles admits to the media is that he needs to work on pass protection, and Big Al is ready & waiting to poke holes in the Broncos round-one draft plan. The guys hear from Bolles at his introductory press-conference, and Tyler Polumbus joins the show from Dove Valley to break down the Broncos newest selection. Big Al is giddy with the Patrick Mahomes selection by KC, and even mentions Mahomes has some Brett Favre in him. DMac is very aware of everything KC gave up to go get him, however, and tips his cap to the great deal the Buffalo Bills made. Big Al thinks John Lynch did the best job of all NFL GM’s last night, and laughs about the no-go on Jimmy Garoppolo.
Cecil gauges the Broncos interest in trading up for Adam Shaheen or Joe Mixon, and admits they have been active in trade talks. The Broncos are still in search of juice, and need an explosive, one-touch and go guy. Big Al is looking for someone that can take it the distance, and Cecil says Alvin Kamara could be the pass-catcher out of the backfield that can be a TD-hog for Denver. Cecil says Shaheen is comparable to Travis Kelce, and the Broncos are currently in love with Mike Roberts from Toledo. Also, Big Al can get behind a prospect that shows flash-play ability & would have been fine going with the best player on the board in the first round.
Goodell gets booed at the podium once again in Philly, and brings up Ron Jaworski to try and bring cheers. Cecil says a lot of teams like Washington are trying to trade up for Dalvin Cook, and Tyler likes Malik McDowell for interior help. Green Bay seems to love Joe Mixon, and Big Al continues to look for firepower to add to the Denver offense. Tyler gets the feeling Elway has success drafting players with red-flag issues, and Al goes around the table collecting first-round draft grades. Kevin King comes off the board early on day-two, and Cecil mentions him as one of his favorite corners in the draft. Also, Forrest Lamp goes to the Chargers & the guys laugh about lineman with short arms.
