As the third week mark in the Tony Romo saga approaches, sources tell 104.3 The Fan Broncos Insider Cecil Lammey that things between the veteran quarterback and the Dallas Cowboys are getting testy.
Filling in for Brandon Stokley on Tuesday, Lammey said sources had indicated that Romo’s camp feels a “general disrespect” in how his release, or lack-there-of, has been handled by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the club.
“From what I know right now, in the exclusive information I’ve gathered, is that relationship between Romo camp and Cowboys camp, specifically Jerry Jones, I’m not going to say it’s fractured beyond repair, but it is in such a state that they want to be done with each other,” Lammey said.
The animosity reportedly stems from Romo being told of his release, which ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported on March 8, saying the long-time Dallas gunslinger would be on the market the following day, March 9, or the first day of free agency.

Instead, reports the next day indicated that instead of granting Romo his release, free to sign with the Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, or any other suitor, the Cowboys were looking to trade the quarterback.
There’s been little movement regarding the situation since, but with the NFL owner’s meetings in Arizona wrapping up, Lammey said there would be a “real push” from Romo’s camp to get his release.
“This relationship is so fractured, and there’s so much bad blood now, we may see it this week,” Lammey said.
Lammey said before news of the rift, Jones might have carried on this situation through the NFL Draft in late April, Lammey’s “Polumbus and Cecil” co-host Tyler Polumbus said mid-May would be the “drop-dead” date before the Broncos had to move on.
However, USA Today NFL writer Tom Pelissero reported today that Jones said it would be important to get a resolution on the Romo saga “before training camp.”
