Is Romo hold up due to Jones preferring he chose Broncos over Texans?

Over the weekend, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio wrote that though the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans are not rivals, Jerry Jones might prefer Tony Romo land with the Denver Broncos than “little brother” down south.
Florio’s theory is that, coupled with fears of a sophomore slump from Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott, Jones would not want to share the Cowboys’ spotlight with a team in his own state, which could happen due to the fervor surrounding the Romo situation.
Denver 7 Broncos Insider Troy Renck told “Schlereth and Evans” on Monday that “greed and hurt feelings” come into play in a situation like this, but the idea that Jones would hold on to Romo for such a reason seems “a little petty.”
“I could see when Jones was trying to block it and didn’t want Romo to go to the NFC East — whether it’s the Redskins, Eagles, whomever. But I don’t totally buy the Houston thing,” Renck said.
Renck likened the Cowboys to the New York Yankees of the NFL, and that the idea of Romo could make the Texans the new team of Texas was “never going to be the case.”
“Good or bad, and they’ve had their struggles certainly in the last decade and a half, they are the most popular team,” Renck said.
However, Sandy Clough said on Monday that the idea that there may be some “paranoia” and “ego” at play here isn’t totally out of the question. And it might not all be from Jerry.
“Maybe it’s those advising him, including his two sons inside of the organization, telling him, listen, we don’t owe Tony Romo anything. He won’t be on our roster this year by virtue of being traded or being released at some point. But what’s the big rush?” Clough said.
“Let’s see what’s out there. Let’s see if we can get this story out there that we don’t have to let him go, and a team, maybe the Houston Texans themselves, get anxious, get antsy, and decide they’re going to give us a second-day pick for Tony Romo.”
Either way, the Romo saga will continue on, perhaps, as Florio believes, to the upcoming league meetings in Arizona or even the NFL Draft in late April.
