Polumbus: Broncos ‘brothers’ will move past locker room ‘fight’

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots were held in check Sunday, scoring only 16 points against a Denver Broncos defense still playing like Super Bowl champions.
However, with the offense only able to muster up a field goal in a deflating 16-3 home loss, tempers flared and brothers fought in the locker room after the game.
Last year was much of the same as this year, with the defense carrying our team all the way to the Super Bowl and the offense barely putting up enough points to not ruin its valiant performances week in and week out.
To be honest, it blew my mind that we did not have friction on that team. I can think of one or two minor moments of frustration between the offense and defense last year. And if you really think about that, it is amazing that there was not more of it.
Of course, we were finding a way to win almost every game, and winning cures just about everything. But the real reason tempers never spilled over last year: Peyton Manning.
What is the defense going to say to an underperforming offense when the leader at the helm is Peyton Manning? Nothing. That is right, nothing. The man, the myth, the legend Peyton Manning was in that room, and nobody on defense dared let understandable frustration boil over.
Manning is gone, offensive frustrations remain, and Denver’s defense finally let loose on their offensive brothers.

Is this a big deal? A sign of dysfunction inside this team? Has Gary Kubiak lost his guys?
Sorry to disappoint, it is none of the above. Kubiak certainly has not lost his guys. Go take a poll of the guys — do it anonymously if you want — you will find out that these guys would run through a brick wall for their head coach.
Frustrations spilled over, and certainly, there are plenty of real problems to discuss on why this team is not winning games, but this postgame “fight” is very low on my list of concerns.
The unfortunate part about the situation is that now the boys will spend this week deflecting questions about this moment all week, and trying to diffuse a situation that happens often on most teams behind closed doors, instead of simply answering questions about the Kansas City Chiefs.
Win these next two games, get a little help from elsewhere, sneak in the playoffs and watch the way this story disappears. Watch the way these boys celebrate together, and watch the way they dump Gatorade on Kubiak’s head.
As brothers growing up together, you’ll throw punches and you’ll say sorry.
What would have happened if you watched an outsider threaten your brother on the same day? Attention would turn, and love would win out. Your real enemy has exposed itself, and you instantly realize it’s not your brother.
Let’s hope these boys turn their attention quickly to the real enemies remaining, the Chiefs and Oakland Raiders.
