After a whirlwind year that saw the Colorado Buffaloes rise once again to prominence, its offensive leader — quarterback Sefo Liufau — will have his chance to continue that momentum into postseason all-star game and potentially a professional career.
Joining Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan’s “C.J. and Stokley” from the Army-Navy game festivities in Baltimore, Reese’s Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage unveiled Liufau has been invited to the prominent all-star game held Jan. 28 in Mobile, Alabama.
“Sefo Liufau, we’ve decided to go ahead and send him an invite. So he’ll be a part of the 68th annual Reese’s Senior Bowl,” Savage said.
Savage said among the influences in selection Liufau, he led the Buffs back into the national spotlight and that “a lot of people” thought the four-year starter deserved all-star game recognition, along with his physical ability.
“I think everyone’s impressed with his size and his toughness, and people just recognized that this is a young man that really brought Colorado through the wilderness,” Savage said. “A lot of people thought he was deserving of being recognized at an all-star game.”
Liufau weathered three years of rebuilding up in Boulder, wherein CU won just eight games (two in Pac-12 play), before leading the Buffs to an 8-3 season, a Pac-12 South title, its first conference championship game in more than a decade, and a berth in the Alamo Bowl.
The 2016 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year, Liufau owns 87 school records, including total offensive yards (10,509), passing yards (9,568), and 300-yard passing games (10).
It’s unknown if Liufau has accepted the invitation to the Senior Bowl as of Friday afternoon.
