For the second time this season, rookie Paxton Lynch will lead the Denver Broncos offense out onto the field Sunday.
Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak ruled quarterback Trevor Siemian out for the team’s matchup with the Jaguars, leading the way for Lynch to make his second career start Sunday in Jacksonville.
Siemian missed practice throughout the week due to a sprained foot that he injured during the overtime period of Sunday’s 30-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. It was arguably one of the best games this season for Siemian, who threw for 368 yards and three touchdowns to earn a 125.5 passer rating.
The second-year pro, who had been in a walking boot, had his foot examined Friday without it before it was put back on, according to Kubiak.
Lynch, along with veteran backup Austin Davis, took first-team reps this week, and the rookie said earlier this week that he’d be ready should Siemian be unable to go.
“I feel confident in me, and I feel confident in the guys around me. Walking around the locker room, you can tell that these guys are hungry to get another win,” Lynch said. “These guys are working hard, and I’m sure that they’re going to continue to work hard this week. We’re going to try to get a win this weekend.”
In his only career start, filling in for Siemian in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons, Lynch completed 23 of 35 passes for 223 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and six sacks. The week before, he came off the bench when Siemian went down with a non-throwing shoulder injury and went 14-of-24 for 170 yards and one touchdown.
