Polumbus: Five high-fives from the Broncos win over the Saints

It is funny being a part of the media this year and riding the emotional roller coaster of following a team with plenty of flaws. Yet somehow the Denver Broncos are still one of the best teams in the NFL.

Offensive line issues, quarterback drama, coaches with cracked ribs, and play calling are all hot topic issues that get beat over the head on sports talk radio. Yet these boys on this team, they don’t care.

The indescribable magic that our Super Bowl team had last year when we just some how, some way knew we would win any game no matter how much possibly went wrong (i.e. Cleveland last year), well, these guys still have that magic.

The media and fans are jumping off the cliff after last week’s embarrassing loss to the Oakland Raiders. They don’t care.

These boys are here to win championships, and like any successful human being, business, or team, they just overcome their flaws.

High-fives:

High-five to Demaryius Thomas: Eight catches for 87 yards and touchdown will get D.T. my first high-five of the day. The dude is animal out there at wide receiver, and that receiving touchdown against the Saints was his 56th since 2011. That puts him at the top of the list since 2011.

High-five to Joe DeCamillis: Certainly, I could not get too far down my list of high-fives without mentioning special teams coach Joe DeCamillis. Never in my all my years of playing football have I ever won a football game off of a blocked extra point that was returned for a two point conversion. DeCamillis found a tell on the long snappers count and brilliantly coached up his guys on how to successfully pull off a risky jump over the center based off of the snappers tell. Well done, Joe D.

High-five to Darian Stewart: With two interceptions and a fumble recovery, Stewart received the defensive game ball from the team and will likely win the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Obviously that is a huge game no matter what quarter you are playing, but against Drew Brees, that is certainly a game Stewart will never forget.

High-five to Trevor Siemian: I have often been accused of being a Trevor Siemian apologist from listeners on 104.3 The Fan. I’m sure I will get more of that after passing out a high-five to Siemian after a game in which he threw two interceptions, but I know great leadership and a guy that can play with poise under pressure when I see it. And Trevor Siemian is that guy. He was sacked six times and hit countless others. He had defensive lineman in his face all day. And, sure, he made couple mistakes that hurt the team greatly, but in response to hit after hit after hit from defensive lineman he did nothing but go make the plays that were needed to win the game. High-five buddy.

High-five to the only ‘Sunshine’ inside the dome, Jordan Taylor: If you like underdog stories, you have to love the story of Jordan Taylor, nicknamed “Sunshine.” From practice squad to personal pregame ball catcher of Peyton Manning to his first NFL touchdown inside the Superdome, Taylor has come a long way. Taylor made a phenomenal catch in the end zone to cap off the opening drive from Siemian and certainly deserves a high-five for the mountain he has climbed.
