Klis: Broncos likely to move Thompson to 53-man after Anderson injury

Exactly how long Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson will be away from the field depends on the outcome of a procedure Thursday afternoon to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
But with Anderson likely to miss at least a couple of weeks, and possibly the remainder of the 2016 season, 9News Broncos Insider Mike Klis called it a “no-brainer” to tap Juwan Thomspon from the practice squad.
“Everyone will get together and they’ll talk, the doctors will talk. And then ‘Greek’ (head athletic trainer Steve Antonopulos) will talk to Elway and Kubiak, and they’ll make a decision on what to do with C.J., as far a putting him on IR,” Klis told 104.3 The Fan’s “The Drive” Thursday.
“And then Friday or Saturday … you can call up Juwan Thompson from the practice squad. That does make sense.”’
Klis said that once everything become clearer, general manager John Elway could look to see who the team could pick up or trade for — though that’s unlikely to happen before Sunday’s matchup with the San Diego Chargers.
Even with Thompson’s addition to the 53-man roster, Denver could look to continue to add running back depth next week, Klis said.
“You’ve got to get depth at that position. We all talk about how (running backs are) a dime a dozen until you lose one. And then it gets tough,” Klis said.
Rookie Devontae Booker’s likely to see a significant increase in workload also, which 104.3 The Fan’s Broncos Insider Cecil Lammey said could lead to a 1,000-yard season for the running back.
