UPDATE (12:30 p.m.):
Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson will undergo surgery Thursday afternoon in California to repair a torn meniscus and will likely land on injured reserve, reports 9News Broncos Insider Mike Klis.
Klis, who joined 104.3 The Fan’s “C.J. and Stokley” Thursday afternoon, said the recovery from such an injury is between eight and 12 weeks, and the question is one what end of the spectrum will Anderson land.
“If it’s eight weeks, there’s a possibility that he could come back — I wouldn’t say it’s likely — for the playoffs, which is really 10 weeks away. So there’s some hope there,” Klis said.
“If it’s a 12-week injury though, and from what I understand there is fear that is more on the 12-week injury side, he would be done for the year.”
Klis said the team waited so long to come to Thursday’s determination to explore any option of not losing Anderson, but rehab was too risky and “just not a very good option.”
The extent of the tear, Klis said, won’t be determined until the surgeons look inside Anderson’s knee, at which point the timeline for recovery will become more clear.

It looks as if the Denver Broncos will be without its lead rusher C.J. Anderson some period of time. But whether that’s a few days or the remainder of the NFL season is unclear.
A Wednesday evening MRI revealed no tear in the ACL of Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson, according to a report from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

That’s about when things started to become foggy surrounding what Anderson’s ailment may be and how long the running back would be away from the field.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport sent a tweet just after 8 a.m. MT that Anderson had told people close to him that his 2016 season was over. NFL.com followed up with a story using the same report.
However, Anderson called Rapoport’s report “false” via a tweet, which he later deleted.

Mike Klis, 9News Broncos Insider, reported that Anderson would be undergoing more tests on his right knee Thursday and that though there’s a fear that season-ending surgery could be required, nothing has been finalized.

After practice Wednesday, head coach Gary Kubiak said Anderson did not participate while he sought a second opinion on the injury out of town.
Anderson played through the injury on Monday against the Houston Texans, Kubiak said, so well in fact that he earned the team’s offensive MVP for the game.
With 107 yards against the Texans, Anderson reached the century mark for the Broncos for the first in 2016. The last time a Denver back had done so was Week 17 of the 2015 season.
Through seven games, Anderson leads the Broncos in rushing with 437 yards, followed by his backup, rookie Devontae Booker, at 244 yards.
Kubiak said Booker, along with third-stringer Kapri Bibbs, would see more work if Anderson’s unable to play going forward.
“Kapri’s been chomping for an opportunity so we’ll see. We’ll see where C.J. is at. (We’ll) take it a day at a time,” Kubiak said Wednesday afternoon.
Booker said after practice Wednesday that he would welcome an increased workload should Anderson be sidelined.
“(Running backs coach Eric Studesville) has talked about it pretty much every day in our meeting room about opportunity and being ready for it,” Booker said of getting playing opportunities. “He coaches us to be ready for every opportunity, and during film study, he makes sure we are ready for each and every situation that we may get on the field.”
